Which 240? 200

This is probably something that gets asked a lot but here goes.

I'm driving a '95 855t that I bought a year ago. Very nice car but I haven't really connected with it and have always liked the 240 body style and straight-forward drivetrain. Reminds me of my old Datsun 510.

Anyway, my wife REALLY wants out of her '96 Dodge Caravan and into a 240 wagon. I'm looking at a 240 sedan for myself. The van and 855t will go. BTW, I haven't ruled out a 740 for me.

I have some basic information about the '90 thru '93 240 regarding A/C, ABS etc but what about the mid to late '80s DLs (and GLs?)? We'll likely go for a post 90 model for Leigh as she's carrying around our two kids but I'm ok with an older model as long as the A/C is relatively easy to convert to R134. What are the A/C issues with the pre-134 240 systems?

What were the options on transmissions from about '85 on? Anything to stay away from? Looking online and at IPD's catalog, it appears there's a lot of parts support for these cars and I do all my own work.

Thanks,
--
Erwin in Memphis, '95 855t
