Am I supposed to have lights for heater/ac/vent? 200 1991

While driving my father's 240 at night, I noticed that there are no illuminated lights for heater/ac/vent control knobs. Is this normal?

It's pitch dark down there, and had to feel around with fingers. Radio controls, which are above the heater/ac/vent controls, are illuminated as expected. Thanks.
