better traction ? 700 1987

I have a newly acquired 1987 760 and live in New Hampshire. This is the first rear wheel drive car I have owned and I am concerned about winter traction. In addition to snow tires I was planning on adding some weight in the trunk. Do others of you that need to go in snow add weight to the trunk. If so, how much weight?. With the "right" amount of weight over the rear wheels and some good tires how should traction compare to front wheel drive.
