Once again I find myself turning to one of the greatest groups of people I've ever met for more assistance.
I have a 1988 Volvo 760 Turbo Wagon.
In the past four months I've replaced the Air Mass Unit, both fuel pumps, all the vacuum hoses, fuel metering whatever, fuel pump relay and in each case the replcement of these parts solved a problem but never all of the problems. There was one lurking in the shadows that would from time to time show itself as a little hesitation when pulling away from a stop light or when I was pulling out to pass someone (it would suddenly act like I had water in the fuel, hesitate, lose power and seemed like it was not getting fuel)...It would then catch and away it would go. I noticed a number of times but not all the time that when it did this the turbo guage would show it going into turbo mode but would make no difference in the engines performance. Because the problem was intermittent the local mechanic (who by the way curses Volvo's and anything else he knows nothing about) would not look at it. Well this morning I was driving down the highway and the car went into hesitation mode several times (the duration of each, about 4 - 8 seconds) each time it did this I noticed that the turbo indicator would go hard over into turbo mode, then the turbo light came on on the dashboard for the first time ever. I slowed the car and made sure that at no time did it go into turbo when going up any grade but the car kept continuously losing power until the last 4 or 5 hundred feet it travelled along at an idle. No spitting, no caughing just a slow steady loss of power. When the car finally came to a stop because of the motor quitting I tried to restart it but I guess there is a relay or something involved to prevent that as the starter would not engage.
I'm sorry for being so wordy but I thought that the more information that was put down here the easier it would be to direct me to my problem.
As in the past I want to thank everyone in advance for any help you give me. You've all been a great help in the past and I'm hoping the same holds true this time............Thank You.
