Hello All -

The 1988 244GL that wife.sig uses has a battery that is (1) not as long as the older types (2) is held down by clamp things on the "feet" on each side and the fender end, (3) has fewer cold cranking amps that the older types.

The battery has gone on strike the last few chilly mornings (it's a DuraLast AutoZone bought in 1998). I haven't checked for any unauthorized current drains yet.

From a non-op 1984 244DL I have a Die Hard battery of the old size. It usually is held in by a "foot" on the fender end and a screw-down clamp against a "foot" on the engine end. It has more CCA than the newer style. I want to swap it into the 1988.

The 1988 battery tray has no hold-down system other than the clamps on the feet - not even a screw hole for that old-style clamp.

SO THE QUESTION TO YOU IS: Have you ever installed the older and longer style in a car that is supposed to use the shorter style? How did you handle the hold-downs?
