My Volvo won't stop running 200 1984

Three times tonight my car would not stop running when I removed the key from the iginition switch. I pulled the negative battery terminal off and the car kept running. I finally yanked the wire from the igintion coil and it died. The car starts and runs fine, just refuses to stop. Any ideas?

There must be a better way of stopping the car besides the ignition coil. Any suggestions?
