'94 940T Advice? Timing Belt or AMM 900 1994

Here's the deal. My wagon has 103,000 miles which should put me at the point where I need to replace my timing belt and get a check up.
Volvo dealership tells me its $550 to do their 100K service which includes new timing belts and other belts, transmission adjustment, and other checks on hoses, alternator, emmisions, etc....
I live in Texas and its just now starting to remain cold weather.
I've noticed lately after start up that the idle fluctuates, which I'm sure is normal until the engine warms up.
But today, I left the house, with the engine still cool, and it kind of sputtered as I accelerated. A few minutes later, I was at a stop light and accelerated to make a turn. After making the turn, my wagon all of a sudden died on me while in motion.
The wagon immediately started back up and I continued on for a minute then parked it. After about 10-15 minutes of errands, I started up the car again and pulled around the block to a stop light, where it died on me again. After this I took it to a local Volvo repair shop.
They said it is probably: Idle Air Valve (part $160+labor)
and/or Air Mass Meter (part $330+labor)

and that I should consider replacing Crank Angle Sensor (part $60+labor)

Help Please!!!

I can't afford all this. What is most important do First ?
Any thoughts on why it is stalling or dying on me?
And is it safe for a non-mechanic type like myself to do any of these repairs?
Any info is greatly appreciated
