preheat hose question 700

When I bought my 86' 745ti, the preheat hose was missing. Since then, I have read several posts saying I am better off not having it. So, should I plug up the hole where it fits on the airbox? Is the temp sensor necessary if the flap for the preheat hose is not in use?
