b.w.55 parking paw.how to r&r

i have reason to believe that i have a broken paw or a stripped gear.wish i could say how it happened, but i wasn't there.and now the driver isn't here.i imagine it was shoved into park while moving.reverse and forward gears all work fine ,with the exception of noise that comes and goes, sometimes sounds like clicking you might here if you where tring to put it into park while rolling, anyway she's up in the air trans pan removed shifter mechanism seems to be working fine.while in park you can turn the drive shaft and hear clicking.i can see a rod going from the shift cam toward the rear of trans.above the valve body,i believe that this is what i need to follow,so valve body is coming off tomarrow a.m..i dont have any spec.s or a diagram to follow, these would help.also i found a broken roll pin in the pan (very small, about a fourth the size of a u-joint roller bearing in length, and about the same diameter)has anyone been here before? do i have to remove trans?just to diagnose?i supose i should have checked F.A.Q.s first.anyway any tips would be helpfull.thanks
