Throttle switch inop? 200 1989

Hi, all.
I tried to test the throttle switch following the instructions in the Bentley Bible. No click-no matter how far I open the throttle! The car starts fine, seems to idle ok, and drives fine. There may still be a problem with the car stalling when slowing or stopping.
Question: What would be the effect of a faulty throttle switch?
