Putting in new engine.

I have the option of getting a new engine with the tranny attached (82K). Can I assume that'll be easier to pull out the entire engine/tranny and drop in a new engine/tranny (w/ new mounts of course)? Can you even pull/put an engine in with the tranny attached? ie will you be able to clear the front of the car?
