Transmission brace 200 1987

Hi All,

While servicing my volvo, I noticed the brace which attaches to the body, just under the transmission, that connects to the body on each side of the transmission, is rotted almost through.

Is this structural support for the drivetrain, or is it to protect the underside of the tranny? I ask to determine how quickly I should think of replacing this piece.
