Front end rebuild -- good news/bad news 140-160 1973

Finally got around to redoing the steering on my 145 today. I changed out the steering rods, the center link ends and the idler arm bushing.

The good news: Finally, tight steering!

The bad news: The steering wheel is almost 90 degrees off when I'm driving straight. If I hold the steering wheel in its normal position I find myself in a significant left turn.

I disattached the ball joints on the steering arm, straightened up the steering wheel (counted turns from lock to lock to make sure), straightened up the wheels, and reattached everything. The wheels look straight when the steering wheel is. But on the road there was only a minor improvement -- still turning left.

Is this a case of terrible alignment with all the new parts or is there something I'm screwing up?

I'm temped just to take off the steering wheel and rotate it to reflect reality. But that wouldn't be the Volvo way. Anybody have a thought on a solution?

Anyway, I'm headed to the alignment shop tomorrow.
