Check those distributors

Have been hearing from the wife about how crummy her 740 was running but figured she was just running junk gas in it and brushed it off until I drove it Friday and, sure enough, it did run like crap. Invested in a new distributor cap and rotor some time back from Groten but seeing the 740's cap is so conveniently located waaaaaaay back behind the engine and I don't have 4 foot long, double jointed arms like a gorilla, I'd let it slide. Besides, it was changed a couple ( maybe more than a couple) of years ago anyway. Decided to give it a go and some time later, had the old one in hand. How the car even ran was beyond me. Contacts were all but burned off with this black, carbon looking crap everywhere inside the cap. The end of the rotor was basically gone. Put the new one on (with some more gynmnastics) and started it up. Had to check to make sure someone didn't switch cars on me. Smooth as silk idle with no shaking and stumbling and on the road, WOW! I'm still eating crow over this one. So guys, it may be a pain in the butt to get to but check those distributor caps if your brick runs like crap. Best 30 bucks I ever spent.
