I recently bought a 1990 740 GL wagon that had a non-functioning in-tank fuel pump, or at least all the symptoms (noisy front pump, occasional power loss w/under 1/2 tank, stumbled on turns.) The other day, the front pump was even louder than usual, and the car quit running. The number 1 (fuel pump & engine mgmt.) fuse was blown. I replaced both pumps, since I didn't know how much longer the front one would last. Now, when I turn the key on, the fuse blows again, even with both fuel pumps disconnected. What's the deal?
