K&N Air filter 200 1984

Hello, Has anyone put a K&N air filter in their volvo ? I know that they make them for my year and model. My issue with it is, well it is my dads issue. He thinks that it will let too much extra dirt into the engine, thus decreasing engine life. I disagree with the knowledge that all of my "offroading" friends, who all drive jeeps, have one. I dont see the problem. It is much more durable than the paper stock filter. I might just buy it anyway. Oh well. If anyone has any knowledge on the issue please help.
