Top rear of engine banging against firewall 200 1987

Hi All,

The top rear of the engine occasionally bangs against the firewall. If I gently push back and forth I can replicate the noise I hear often when driving. My transmission brace is shot - so Im replacing that today. Is this the problem, or should I investigate the tranny mount and engine mounts, too. There seems to be a good deal of clearance between the oil filter and the frame, so that should rule out engine mounts, correct?
