Past couple of cooler (in the 40's) nights have cause my car to play a new joke on me. Seems that if i'm driving down the road and turn on my lights, the voltmeter will drop almost to the red (on the left) and the lights slightly dim. If i turn any other electrical item on, i.e. seat heaters, the needle will then enter the red and the electronics will begin to die a little more. When i turn off my lights, the needle only goes to the halfway point. This has only occured the past week or so. Even driving 70+ mph seems to have little effect of the charging system. The needle barely makes it past the red mark. I know my battery is a bit old...6 plus years...but it never has had this problem before. Its filled with fluid, i checked that the other day. Is it time to get a new battery or could it be the brushes in the alternator?
