HELP!!!
I've got a carbeureted 85 240 with issues...
HERE GOES.
We've had it unusually cold here lately. Anticipating snow, I backed the brick into the driveway (nose down). When I went to start it this morning, it was very difficult to start (about 20F last night), and when it finally started, it sounded as if it were running on 2 cylinders. After 2-3 minutes, it died completely. I moved it to the street, remembered the block heater, plugged it in, and left. When I got back, I started it, and it fired right up. Sounded rough, and the RPMs would not increase when I gave it gas. Giving it max choke killed it, and it seems to run best with the choke about 1/5 engaged. Now I have a car that idles, but doesn't speed up when I give it gas. Sometimes it dies if I gas it.
Here's what I've done.
The tank level was low (1/8), and it was cheapy Arco gas. I threw in a couple gallons of chevron premium. I sprayed the exterior/linkages thoroughly with carb cleaner. Took off the air inlet hose, sprayed in there with carb cleaner. Checked all my vacuum hoses, and they're still connected. I thought it was the gas because my brick doesnt appreciate arco gas, and sometimes sputters up steep hills when I feed her cheap gas. The car has ran for about 30 minutes now, and it is still not improved. It idles smoother than ever, but won't go off idle for anything. the linkages are moving freely, and when I rev it with the air hose off, I can hear the hissing increase, so I'm pretty sure the linkage is doing whatever it needs to do in the carb.
HELP!! I have to work at 8am tomorrow, and this is my ride!!!
THanks!!!!!
