car runnung really bad when cold 200 1983

I just bought an 83 240. the car starts fine but idles really rough and is very hesitant. sometimes when i'm driving the car will barely go at full throttle but will suddenly kick in.whenever it stalls it allways starts right back up. the problem seems to stop once it warms up. also there is allot of grey smoke and caustic smell coming from tailpipe.

any help would be most appreciated.
