Why 240's are so tough 200

So we all have seen so many 240 and other Volvo's last well past 200k miles on the original engine.

Why are they so tough?

Why aren't American cars so tough?

I think it's probably 240's have high torque at low RPM's. Therefore you can drive same amount of miles with less turns in the engine?

What does everybody else think?
