Heater blower question 700 1986

I have a strange thing happening on my 86 760 turbo wagon. Sometimes when I turn the heat on the blower will not come on. But if I switch the control to defrost, it comes on right away. Sometimes it will start blowing half waythrough the trip. Once it does come on, there is no problem, it never cuts out. My brick has that automatic climate control system. Anyone have any suggestions ?
