I just got done rebuilding and re-packing my old noisey t-belt tensioner.. after takign the thing apart, I found that the reason it started to get kinda noisey was the fack that all the grease was kinda burnt out. So I got my little flat head screwdrvier.. and little by little repacked the thing with some synthetic mobile 1 Universal Grease. I think this thing should hold up PERFECTLY for 5-10k... so now I got a nice spare to throw in my trunk. Once I packed like maybe like a few "starburst" sized chunks of grease into the thing.. it almost feel likes like a new bearing (except for a little notch you feel from the plastic holder that aligns the bearings). This is a great idea for anyone who just replaced a tensioner.. and has previously known what it is like to have a bearing rip apart on the road :(... my 80 244 did that once. So now I have a nice spare that I would feel safe putting on, even if I am 1000 miles from home.
Email me if you want pictures and the instructions on how to repack, and rebuild your t-belt tensioner. I will also be putting this on my website, along with some other good(cheap) things you can do to improve your quality of life with your volvo :)
