Is this a job worth doing? 200 1983

My ace volvo mechanic said my B23F block has so much scale built up that it is running hotter than normal, thereby failing the Nox test. He said basically sell the car out of county, donate it, or part it out! 83 244 GL, been in the family since new, bought from my dad in 93,runs great,no rust, great interior, paint just now starting to show spots of oxidation.

Besides new engine, need:

Radiator: Recommends Nissens 3 row

AMM: mechanic said rebuilt ones are usually junk, $400 from Volvo

tranny tailshaft leak: He said if you remove tranny, usually break plastic prongs holding kickdown cable-$90 , seals and orings start leaking (heard on BB that rebuild is major $$) No probs from tranny but a flush wouldnt hurt, would it? Been years since last one.

You know how it is, while the engine is out, do alot of small stuff that would add up: Convert to elect cooling fan, upgrade a/c, new motor and tranny mounts, Ujoints, flush rearend, flush brake lines, maybe blower motor job, heater core, install 3 gauge cluster and wiring, maybe replace and reroute wiring harness around pass. fenderwall, etc etc.

Tnen no gaurantee how long before the brakes, steering rack, etc goes out.

Should I slap a USED engine in $500, Rebuild mine or a donor block (strip it down amd take to a machine shop for cleaning and regrinding tolerances, etc, then me reassemble) or have it rebuilt $1500 or sell it? Waaaa

Car only worth $1K, what are your opinions? Thanks, Mark
