Must I use Volvo brand coolant and brake fluid? 900 1995

According to the FAQ board on this forum they recommend using Volvo brand coolant and brake fluid. Does anyone agree/disagree with this recommendation? I'm the type that never uses dealer brand unless necessary. I was planning to use Valvoline Dot 4 brake fluid for abs brakes systems. I was going to use a name brand coolant with distilled water.
