OK into doing a turbo job on my 91 b230ft I know my unit is a garrett (I can see that clearly on the castings on the intake impeller...its say Garrett on on side and air research on the other...
one of the firms im talking to about supplying a rebuild is saying that there were 'about 6' models fitted and its very unlikely mine is a T25 (as mentioned on here and in Haynes) now its a water cooled turbo on a 91 940 Turbo...
5 questions :-
1. Anyone know for sure if the t25 was used, if so (or not) any variations I should worry about...
2. Im now thinking either this firm are VERY good and seriously know there stuff... or .... they are full of BS and i run very very fast...any opinions...?
3. I can see a little silever tag on the side of the turbo (1"* 0.5" maybe) with numbers stamped on it...anyone know how to decode them...or what im looking for that lets me know exactly what im looking at...
4. When i rang the dealer to talk about this the volvo systems have my car down as a GLE with a b230f (they did that in the uk!) but the car defiantely has a b230ft and has the turbo badge on the tailgate etc, turbo dash etc) should i worry or is this likely to be crap record keeping by volvo..I shouls also point out that they keep saying things like ..oh its just....uhm strange looks like a 760 wiring loom but this is a 940...
4. I have ordered all the sensible stuff from my volvo dealers for doing the swap (i.e. new seals, new oil feed and return pipes for the turbo, fresh anit-freeze etc) and also ordered a new header tank for the coolant (the square one including the float and also a level guard sensor £27!!! ($40ish) bargin i say...) Now my 940 has the round tank fitted anyone any opionins on brakets to mount the square one....?
