Self-Leveler Shock Issues 700 1988

I'm trying to buy an '88 760 that has a droopy left side in the rear. Turns out the shock is bad, caused pressure on the spring and has bent a small tie rod in the rear. To order the VOLVO OEM Self Leveling System requires buying the WHOLE shooting match which will set me back about 1800+ bucks. Is there a way to convert the self-leveling system to a regular shock and spring setup with compromising the ride quality???? Thanks for your help!!
