ignition probs 745 87 700

re earlier
just checked out search/previous (found a brilliant section by abe crombie on testing ignition secondry)
allthough a new distributer has been fitted sounds like the culprit.
also spotted a section on cable rot i thought it was just me, yes it affects uk models as well,
which brings me to my main point, when i bought the car i noticed the wiring under the inlet manifold to the various sensors was badly burnt to bare copper ichecked with the previus owner yes a mechanic who said it had been like that for years, true enough the car ran great,
some months later i noticed a nice newish earth cable to the engine had been fitted ,so i suspect the original had broken in its previous life and the starter had attempted to satisfy its lust for power usin the earth wires to the sensors,
(the original earth had broken out of sight at the alternater bracket)
i would like to now repair this part of the harness i used to be an auto electrician when life was simple, could anyone suggest a suitable wiring diagram
or w.h.y covering this section, also it would be nice to identify the various sensors- (did the designer go mad? my 240 ran for 20 years and never missed a beat- my 740 is a permanant fixture on the back of the recovery truck( i have a manual- nuff said!)my e-mail is douglynn@douglynn.worldonline.co.uk if anyone has a copy,
also the LT plug to the distributer looks a bit dodgy are these available?
regards
doug
ps also had some feedback from the uk site on the vertical distance of 25mm between the timing mark on the crankcase and the pulley making ignition timing difficult
this seems to be a uk problem the answer apparantly is to temp stick a matchstick on!
