Why is one of my tires unevenly worn? 900

The left rear tire on my 95 965 is unevenly worn. Aff four tires are Goodyear Eagle HP's 195/65R15 with 25K on them. As you look around the tire, some of the tread is substantially deeper than elsewhere. It is most apparent near the outside edge of the tire. (About half of the tire has deep tread on the edge; while the other half is mostly worn.) This also causes a shimmy comming from the rear at about 30mph. It is not terrible, but we notice it. The rim does not appear to be damaged and does not wobble as far as I can tell.

What is the cause of this? Or is it simply a bad tire?
