Where this hose goes????? 200

I want to know where the hose in the following picture goes?
1987 240DL

The picture was taken looking back in front of the rear axle. At the bottom of the picture you see the diferential. The diferenctial has a "fitting" ??? May be the hose goes here???

Blue circle= loose end of the hose
Yellow circle = place at the other end of the hose (goes somewhere over gas tank)
Red circle = "fitting" on the diferential
