When the car has sat for 24 hours or more the engine chugs and coughs upon starting, almost stalls, until I give it gas. It will do this for about a minute and then quiet down. It's almost like when you start a cold lawn-mower. I've heard it called a 'knock' but not sure if that's the right tech. term. It feels kinda like it's starved for fuel possibly. Another analogy would be like starting a garden hose from empty. Spurts and coughs.
A possibly un/related problem is that when the tank is nearing empty say 1/4 full and the car is just warming up (i.e. first 10 minutes of driving),if I stop hard the car will buck and try to stall as it comes to a stop, again hitting the gas will bring it back to smooth.
Otherwise, once well warmed the car runs fine.
What is wrong? The stop-hard and cough problem came first, now the hard start. Is this a pre-pump issue perhaps? What should I have a mech. look at? Pricey?
Thanks for any and all help.
