740 distributer seal and timing marks 230k 1986 uk 700

i recently changed my distributer but the large seal seems to be made of plastic (i dont mean hardened rubber) fitted it back temporily with a couple of o-rings, could anyone please tell me if these are available seperately and how are they fitted- hot water job?

some time ago i raised a query relating to the fact that the vertical distance between the timing marks on the timing belt cover and the mark on the crankshaft pulley was about 25mm, although one response suggested sticking a matchstick on, i did not get any other responses,i was a bit surprised by this as such a major defect should cause widespread difficulties, in fact the timing spot with a strobe can alter by nearly 10 degrees depending which eye you look through!
i first thought was that this was unique to my engine, but i have checked several others, even a 900 series they were the same.
i drew a blank at my local volvo dealer,
i hope to contact volvo head office shortly,it would be of great help if someone could reply to this problem,or an illustration,
regards again
doug
