When I started my '89 740 GLE this morning it did not fire up immidiately as normal. I attributed this to the fact that the humidity was high, it was snowing like mad and that the car had not moved for 3 days. I ran the starter for a long time as the motor caughed and sputtered trying to start. It eventually started and I headed off to work. At the bottom of one steep hill the car sputtered and I looked at the gas gauge and thought I was out of gas cause the needle was below empty. So I kept on driving down the road. Near the bottom of another hill it sputtered more had no power then died. I tried and tried and tried to start it and after a long time it sputtered and ran roughly. As I was pulling it off the middle of the road it started running normal so I kept driving to a gas station to fill up. It took 54.74 liters (14.46 US gal)of gas. What I am wondering is what is the fuel capacity of my tank (I looked on the car and could not find this info). And where does the fuel line come out of the tank. If it is at the back that would make sense that it died after a steep hill. I am hopping that that was my problem and that I do not have any repairs to make soon.
Thanks
Steve
