I believe my '81 244GL has been attacked by the green-eyed monster. I was driving the car when I saw a '93 "Classic" (is that the right phrase, memory is fuzzy) and thought "Ooooooohhhh, Sssswwweeeeeet..." Apparently my '81 noticed, Ah, but she's a crafty minx. She decided that her revenge would be best served cold.
Was driving along later that day when without warning the engine died. I threw her in neutral and cranked her over while still rolling. Fired right up on first crank. Thought, Oh well, I'll check it out later. Anyway did that about three more times during the day. I was getting a little nervous.
That night, I began my fuel filter change. The devious girl had tightened her fuel filter's grasp on the little fitting on the engine side of the filter. I could not get it off. Reassembled, and had fuel leak from tank side 90 degree fitting, tightened that, felt kind've stupid. Next day went to garage and took two wrenches and a hammer and removed fitting. Intalled new filter. Lots more power. Yeah!!
Drove car after change, no more dying under heavy acceleration. Thought ohhh, the fuel filter must have been clogged. When engine shut off, debris settled and allowed fuel to flow again. SEE, see how good I am at wishful thinking and deluding myself. Was driving car home when it commenced its "I'll die when I feel like it" antics. Criminy.
I will commence looking for wires that are grounding out tomorrow. I must make ammends with spending lots of time doting on her so that she will be a mighty steed once again. Will post results of exploratory surgery. Just wanted to vent.
