We just purchased a used 93 Volvo 240 sedan. Nice car, but it seems like the exhaust note is too noticeable inside. This is noticeable mostly at highway speed. Its a reasonably quiet car otherwise. On the driveway, I crawled underneath while it was idling. No leaks that I could hear. The car has 120K miles on it. I am wondering if the innerds of the front muffler might be shot (no rattling noticed) and this might cause the exhaust note to be audible inside. Kind of seems like the firewall sound barrier is inadequate, so the drone of the engine is rather easily heard. But, then again maybe all of this is normal for the car. I have not been in any other 240 sedans to hear if they are different, so can't make a comparison. Anybody care to comment?
