Wiper Linkage Woes (warning: novel) 200 1979

I've got a '79 245 DL.
The first problem I had with my wiper linkage was about 6 months ago, just at the end of spring. I have the linkage with two nubs, for lack of a better word. One pokes through the hood and the other is slipped over the first and fastened in place, and holds the first in place. I have also seen the nut-style while rooting around in various other volvo's. Well, one day driving along with the wipes happily going along, my passenger wiper assembley just fell right off. From what I determine happened, the outer nub worked itself loose, and it all just flew off. I managed to pick most of it up off the side of the road, and since it was the passenger side, I was able to drive home.
That was the last rain before summer, and seeing as I didn't have any of the parts, and also in my ramblings underneath my dash, I decided to just leave it for a while, and see what I could do to fix it.
Well, my friend wrecked his Volvo into a tree about two months ago (quite the sad sight), and he had the same wiper style as me, so I salvaged the passenger arm from his car. Well, I had quite the hard time getting his arm stuck securely onto my car, as the outer nub refused to stay on the inner one. I put up with this, and just drove with the driver's side for a while.
Well, during the holidays my dad had the bright idea of breaking out the JB weld. Unfortunately, in the process of trying to get the outer nub out of the wiper arm, he damaged it enough so that it wouldn't fit over the inner nub any more. This was the beginning of the end. Basically, he tried various methods, and eventually wound up destroying the inner nub, and, even better, made the wire that connects the arm from the motor to the passenger-side cam fall off of the cam.
So now my driver's side wiper isn't working either.

How on earth do I get that wire wound again? How much of the dash do I have to pull out, and how do I go about doing that?

On another note, but still frustrating, my driver's side window won't roll completely up. It will roll almost all the way up without any resistance or any problem, but once it reaches the last few inches, it starts to get very hard to crank up, and begins to feel like it's popping from groove to groove up. It makes properly nerve-wracking noises as well. It gets harder and harder the closer I get to the top, then finally about a 1/8" from the seal, I can't crank it anymore. It feels like it's just slipping. I opened it up once already, and a cursory inspection revealed no easily visible problems, but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what might be causing this, and/or have any suggestions to fix it?

Also, I'm looking at the possiblity of converting to electric windows. I can get all the hardware for cheap (meaning free), but I'm not sure if it's even possible or feasible. Has anyone attempted this, and does anyone know more about this conversion?

Thanks,
Adrian Pike
