What rpm does your 960 cruise at on the hwy?? 900 1995

Sure feels like I'm crusing at high rpms on the hwy. I think I'm at around 3,000rpm at around 75mph. Why is the 960 geared to run so high in overdrive? Maybe that is why my gas mileage is not any better on a long distance trip.
