What is the correct tire pressure for the 89, 240 wagon, and the 91, 740 sedan Volvos? I have conflicting sources of information:
The 89, 245 Owner's Manual says to normally use 27 psi front and 30 psi rear - or 36 psi if it is fully loaded. The 245 Door Panel says 36 psi front & rear recommended.
I don't even remember what the 91, 740 Owner's Manual says; but the 740 Door Panel says the same thing as the 89, 245 - 36 psi.
I've run lower pressure in the 740 a few years back but the inside cords on the tires got damaged. I used to run around 30-32 psi front and rear but found that the 36 psi gave us better gas mileage, albeit a stiffer ride. I also wonder why they recommend different front & rear pressures for the 245 when it has a 50-50 weight balance, unlike the 740 which is front end heavy?
I'm not speaking about driving on ice or snow, just average good weather driving.
Any real answers?
