780 front seat problems 700 1987

I just bought my first car, a 1987 780 Bertone. It was a family member's and has been beautifully maintained. The problem is the front seats. I can't get the passenger seat to fold forward though it does slide forward. The driver's side folds forward and slides forward but doesn't adjust forward and so I am too upright while driving.
The dealership said they can't fix the cables which are the problem because they won't be able to put the upholstery back together very well. I want to get this fixed but as this is my first car I have very little to spend on repair and upholstery costs.
Any advice and help would be great. Thanks and I will be back for more advice as I get to know the car and find problems.
