Fuel Pump Conversion? 200 1979

I called a Volvo dealership about my fuel pump because fuse 7 gets very hot, they said I need to convert my pumps and sending unit to the newer style.
The older style pumps were changed over the years and they don't carry the orignal pumps, is this true?
