cold start problem 700 1985

Ok, after several hours digging through the boards archives and the FAQ I still have no answers so as much as I really wanted to solve this on my own I have to ask again for help. I apologize for the lengthy post. I recently bought a 1985 744GLE with the B230f engine. It seems to really dislike cold starting, it has been between -15C and -20C lately. This dosn't seem to be that cold to me as other cars I have owned have had no problem at this temp, including an '81 244DL, as well my wife's 1996 Dodge (I know... :-()has no problem starting and in my opinion the brick should excel in this weather. If I plug in the block heater there is no problem it fires up like a dream, but if left over night or for extended time it cranks but won't start. Now, I looked at other posts that have suggested cold start valve, radio suppression relay, temp sensor. Its my understanding that there isn't a radio suppression relay on an '85 (its not where my Haynes manual says it is anyway)so do I have a cold start valve, and where is it (not in the manual either)? The reason I suspect the cold start valve and not temp sensor is that the car is superb in warmer weather and when I plug it in. The plugs are good, air cleaner is fine, thermostat works well, timing and idle have been done........please help.
