defroster vent modification possible? 200 1983

Gooden nacht,

Winter weather in NE OH now reminds me of one feature of my 72 142 that I really miss (apart from handbrake on driver's side, sensible place for us lefties, also the straight line speedo, damned nostalgia!):THREE (3) vents to duct air to windshield for defrost/demist.

Why did volvo go to two instead of three? Did people really put 6 X 9 speakers in that center hole for their "monos"? I think the 74 142 I had had already lost the center vent.

Am on 2nd 83 240, this one a wagon. Around here, lots of temps in/around freezing, also times when I need to go into city where people are impatient w/ the beast's acceleration, pass me, kick salty muck onto windshield, all to beat me to next traffic light. The center of the windshield just doesn't get as hot as left and right extremes closer to airflow. Ice seems to always form there, can live w/it, but surely w/our collective brain we can do better....

New windshield washer sprayers from dealer w/ 4 holes ain't the greatest either, they freeze up and clog just like gunked up originals, which I ruined by getting bits of needle broken off in there.

Happy winter motoring,

Frank in OH
