Just bought my first Volvo: an 86 240DL (white 4-door). There are a couple things wrong with it, things I would like to get done ASAP.
1: I have no power steering because the fluid leaks straight out of the PS rack. Is this a bad rack, or are there just some bad seals or plugs or something?
2: Not quite as important, but my wiper nozzles don't spray and that bugs me. Looks like there's plenty of cleaner in the resevior so I'm guessing it's a bad pump or something. Is hard to fix or replace?
3: My driver's seat is in bad shape. It's drivable-in, and I'm pretty sure the lumbar support is inoperable (didn't look into it much), but what bugs me is it looks like the upper half was pulled backward and snapped. Is this fixable, or would there be welding involved? Would I be able to remove the covering and inspect it?
4: The odometer stopped and I didn't even notice it till I took the car home (previous owner didn't bother mentioning it). I understand there's a gear back there, but I have been told it's probably best to just get another odometer. What would replacing it entail? Lot of work, or just sort of 'plug-and-play?' Also, can the odometer be set? This one quit at 204,XXX miles, so I really have no idea what it should be at now.
That seems to be it for now... there are a bunch of other things that don't work but those don't bother me as much.
