Should I have used Shell Rotella T 15W-40 in B230F in winter? 700 1987

I just bought an '87 740 GLE that has been well taken care of all of it's life, but it just turned 200K. I changed the oil when I got the car and used Shell Rotella T 15W-40. The engine burns no oil that I know of (The car passed inspection in September of '01), but I figured that with that many miles using a thicker oil wouldn't hurt. According to Shell's literature the oil is a multigrade and is formulated for cold weather use. In fact on the website it states that Detroit Diesel specifies the same oil for use around 0 degrees F. However, Volvo's literature states that 15W-40 should only be used when ambient temperatures are above 14 degrees F. I live in central NJ where we have mild to cold winters, but of course the day after I changed the oil we had a cold snap and the temp as of 5 a.m. this morning is 5 degrees. So, did I goof? Should I change the oil out for 10W-30 immediately? Or is the Shell 15W-40 good enough for these low temperatures?
