How come there isn't as much room in the driving position as on my old one? 200 1992

I've got a 1992 wagon and a 1980 wagon. One thing about the 1980 that I always thought was wonderful was the driving position. I'm 6'3 and it's *perfect* for me.

Then I got the 1992 and it isn't the same--it feels more than an inch smaller in leg room and distance to the steering wheel. But I can't figure out where the difference is. I've measured everything on both cars--seat (all the way back) vs. door opgs vs. steering wheel vs. pedals--and the two cars seem to be the same. I've tried the seat up and the seat down. I've tried a pre-1985 seat in the new car.

What am I missing? Does anyone have interior dimensions for various year models?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Doug Harvey
