power steering fluid? 200 1993

I'm going to change my powersteering fluid and was told to put dextron 3 tranny fluid in it. I put my finger in it and it smells like power steering fluid and not tranny fluid. Is this ok to still put in dextron 3 or should I put in regular power steering fluid? Thanks its a 93 240
