high idle 900

My 940 T started idling high when driving, about 1000. THis kept up until for about 5 minutes until I pulled over and put it in park. Then the RPM's raced up to 3.I turned the car off for a minute and that seemed to reset it. Earlier that drive their was a clicking sort of sound behind the passenger side dash. Maybe even behind the center dash. The first time it happened it stayed on until the ABS flashed and stopped. I couldn't get any code from the diagnostic unit.
