Oil Leak 92 960 900 1992

Hello, My perfect one owner, 1992 960 wagon with 95K miles has an oil leak. After a visual inspection, my mechanic used dye to determine where the leak was coming from. Unfortunately, he found I need a new head gasket. Cost-$2000 for 11 hours plus parts. Yikes!
I wanted to drive this car forever, but now I'm faced with big buck repairs and wonder how many more are coming (eg transmission). I am seeking input about 1) does this repair sound reasonable? 2) should I be replacing anything else that is likely to fail as a part of this repair? 3) Any other suggestions/thoughts from other Volvo drivers or mechanics?
