The original coil gave out in my 122, somewhat prematurely, and at
a somewhat inconvenient time. (It's ONLY 37 years old and it was 4°F
this morning!) (At the same time I broke the clutch cable in the 164...
Grrrr!!)
Anyway it seemed like a good time to work in short bursts and put the
1975 240 B20F ignition system in. I turned the distributor/oil pump
drive gear 180° so the distributor rotor seems to face the right way now,
and that went pretty easily. The armored cable had already been cut before
I got the car in 1984 - it had a Buick ignition switch in it which I have
since replaced with an aftermarket switch from Stephane Lapointe, which
seems to still be working well. The principal question now is, where do
I mount the electronic module? The IPD folks suggested putting it under
the dash, but I believe I'd rather have it inside the engine compartment
like it is on the 240s, to minimize wiring length and complexity. One
place that looks like it might work is on top of the pedal box. Any of
you folks who have done this switch have a better idea?
Many thanks for your suggestions.
Sure hope it warms up soon!
BTW a clutch cable is on the way.
