240 wagon no fuel no spark 200

Hi everyone! I am Cliff, live in north west Kansas well actually out in the sticks about 15 miles to the nearest town on dirt roads, our family car is a 1985 volvo 240 wagon, wonderfull car, wxcept it quit the otherday when my wife was on her way to town, she said it was running poorly, not having any power then after about 10 miles it grdually slowed down kept loosing power then just died. drug it home expecting to find that the fuel filter had pluged or air filter had gone to long betwean changing. replaced fuel filter, and air filter, cranked over good, but not firing, checked fuel pump, it was not running, jumped the 5 and 7 terminals on the fuse pannel pump ran, cranked over again and not firing. Humm... checked for fire on the coil wire and no spark either....scratching my head, found the fuel pump relay under the passengers side kick pannel replacd it with a bosch relay, did not have the exact relay but it looked to be the same configuration, no pump running, went back and jumped the plug with a short wire with the relay out of the socket and the pump runs, but no spark still. Went to my parts volvo but found out the relays on it are different since it is a 740. I am wondering if there is something in common with both the spark and the fuel. any help or sugestions would be greatly appreciated. is it possible that the relay is fuel relay is still the problem?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Cliff
